I graduated 1997 from Eastern Kentucky University with my Masters of Science in Nursing and became board certified as a family nurse practitioner. I am a practicing clinician and mother of four, living in southeastern Kentucky. I am passionate about working with each patient to find the root causes of the problem. I believe that treating problems with medications is often necessary, however is not always the answer. It is important to also look at environmental factors, genetics, diet and lifestyle they can influence health.
In 2004, I developed an illness that lasted about two years. After numerous attempts to seek answers with different medical specialties, I was only offered medications. I did not have any lab work or diagnostic studies to determine the problem. My symptoms progressed and were identified later as an endocrine disorder or simple terms hormone imbalance. I had such a difficult time that I realized we did not have this service in our community and completed a three-year fellowship and became board certified in functional medicine with a4M.
I enjoy working with patients with complicated issues while getting to know them as people. I am empathetic with those who have never felt listened to by a provider. It is a joy meeting people and building lifelong relationships and helping in all aspects of mind and body. I have a special interest in hormonal disorders that affect the brain and body including diabetes, PCOS, premenstrual syndrome disorder, low testosterone, anxiety, IBS and obesity.
When not seeing patients, I enjoy skiing, hiking, reading, tennis, flying and spending time with family and friends.
